Frequently Asked Questions
How do you make your embroidery patterns?
I use a combination of tools depending on the concept/subject. I use Procreate as a starting point for most projects, especially freehand embroidery. Stitchly is the software I use to export my cross stitch patterns. Sometimes I license fonts or assets, and sometimes I just doodle something that would make a neat embroidery project.
Do you use AI?
NO.
As a creator, as a writer, as a person, I’m not a fan of generative AI. I think it has ruined a lot of online stores and it commodifies the efforts of committed artists. I can’t claim that I have never used it for boring reasons in the past, but I can promise that nothing I am offering was dreamed up by the plagiarism machine.
Where are you based?
I’m in the Orlando area, in the historic town of Sanford, Florida. It’s known as a charming home to lots of small businesses that welcomes visitors from around the world. I have made a 2026 goal to participate in at least one craft fair or market, but I’m mostly an e-commerce girlie for now.
What’s the difference between cross stitch and embroidery?
Cross stitch is a type of embroidery that is worked within a grid, most often with woven fabrics such as Aida cloth. Counted cross-stitch involves a chart pattern that shows which colors and how many stitches are needed for each section.
Freehand embroidery (freestyle embroidery, line embroidery) is a type of stitching that involves “drawing” a design and working stitches to suit it, whether that is a simple straight stitch on an outline or a detailed diagram that uses a variety of outline and fill stitches.

What’s your background?
I have worked for more than 20 years as a creative strategist and copywriter, and I’ve been practicing fiber arts since I was allowed to hold scissors. I’ve dabbled in knitting, crochet, amigurumi, sewing, macrame, jewelry-making, acrylic painting, upcycled crafts, and more. Embroidery resonates with me the most due to its wide potential for expression, its rich history both as an art form and as a means of communiction, and its affordability (have you SEEN the price of yarn these days?). My goal with Needledrops is to introduce embroidery to new creators and provide unique content for the needlework community.
How are your products eco-friendly?
I repurpose materials and limit waste with my products whenever possible. Many of my projects are packaged in reusable tins, bags, and boxes, and I take care to pack products with as little “filler” as possible. And of course, digital patterns mean less waste with printing and mailing, plus you can access your pattern again and again.
What do I get if I sign up for emails?
